Gardens have a way of getting out of hand quietly. Two weeks of bad weather become a month, and suddenly the lawn is shin-deep, the hedge has put on six inches of feral growth, and the borders are full of unidentifiable weeds. Add to that the larger projects that never quite get started — the patio that needs re-pointing, the decking that needs treating, the gravel area that needs weed-membrane underneath — and many homeowners simply stop using the garden altogether. We are here to break that cycle.

Our gardening service is built around domestic gardens in Middlesbrough and the surrounding Teesside towns. We are not landscape architects and we do not take on commercial estate-management contracts. What we do is hands-on work that turns an unloved garden back into a usable one: a thorough tidy-up, a regular mowing schedule if you want one, hedge cuts twice a year, border weeding and replanting, and the small construction jobs that turn a patchy garden into a properly designed one.

What Gardening Work We Carry Out

Our typical week ranges from one-off tidy-ups to small landscaping projects, with a regular mowing round on top. For one-off jobs we charge an hourly rate; for regular maintenance we set up a recurring schedule and a fixed price per visit. Our remit covers most domestic gardening tasks, with the major exception of mature tree work, which is on our separate Tree Surgery page.

Lawn Care Done Properly

Lawns are the most-noticed part of any garden, and the Middlesbrough climate is fairly kind to them: enough rain to keep them green, but not so much that they become permanently waterlogged. Most domestic lawns benefit from a weekly mow during the main growing season, monthly during shoulder seasons, and a couple of more involved treatments each year — a spring scarification to lift out the thatch, an autumn aeration to relieve compaction, and an annual feed and weed treatment. We can carry all of these out as part of a regular maintenance contract or as one-off services. Lawns that are heavily mossed often benefit from a moss-killing treatment followed by scarification a fortnight later, and we are happy to discuss the right approach for your specific lawn.

Hedge and Border Maintenance

Hedge cutting in Middlesbrough is timed around bird-nesting season: we avoid cutting between March and August where there is any risk of disturbing nesting birds, and we take the time to check the hedge before starting at any time of year. Most domestic hedges benefit from a cut in late summer (after the nesting season) and a tidy in early spring. Tall conifers, beech and laurel hedges all need slightly different treatment, and we adjust our approach to suit. For borders, we offer regular weeding visits as well as one-off restoration work where a border has been allowed to become overgrown.
