Built-in appliances are a particular pain point. Manufacturers change dimensions every few years, and the integrated dishwasher you bought eight years ago is almost certainly not the same size as the one you can buy today. Ovens, hobs and extractors come with their own quirks. A built-in oven that has been wired in over the years often has tired connections that should be replaced rather than reused. Hobs need to be sealed against the worktop properly to stop spills running down into the cabinet. Extractor hoods need to be vented properly, with the ducting sized correctly, otherwise they simply recirculate steam and fat into the room and the carcass swells from the inside out within a year.
