Broken glass is the kind of problem that has to be dealt with quickly. A single broken window in a back door is a security risk, a draught and a child-safety hazard all at once. A failed sealed unit in a bedroom window is no immediate emergency but it is unsightly and inefficient. A broken pane in a Victorian sash window is a potential cold-weather disaster. We provide both emergency glazing and planned glass replacement across Middlesbrough, with a fast response for emergencies and a careful, measured approach for non-urgent work.

The bulk of our glazing work involves three things: replacement of misted or failed sealed double-glazed units, replacement of broken single panes in older properties or sheds and outbuildings, and emergency boarding-up where we have been called after a break-in or accidental damage. We carry sheet glass, plywood and clear polythene on the van for emergency response, and we order matching sealed units from a local manufacturer for planned glazing work, typically within five to seven days.

Emergency Glazing After a Break-In

Break-ins and accidents do not happen at convenient times. We aim to attend genuine emergencies the same day, often within a few hours of the call. The first job is to make the property safe and secure: we board up the broken pane with plywood, sealed against the weather and screwed into the frame so it cannot easily be removed from outside. The pane itself is then ordered for proper replacement on a follow-up visit. Most insurance policies cover the cost of glazing repair, and we are happy to provide the documentation needed for a claim including photographs and itemised invoicing.

For very large or unusual panes, particularly in older buildings, the replacement glass may need to be ordered specially and can take a week or more to arrive. In those cases we leave proper boarding in place until the new glass is fitted, and we re-attend at a time that suits you.

Sealed Units and Modern Glazing

Modern sealed double-glazed units are the most common glazing replacement we carry out. These are the two panes of glass with a spacer and seal between them that you find in every uPVC and modern timber window. When the seal fails, condensation appears between the panes and gradually permanent misting sets in. The unit is no longer doing its insulating job and the window looks awful. Replacement involves removing the existing beads, lifting out the failed unit, fitting the new unit on proper setting blocks, and replacing the beads. Most sealed units we replace are A-rated for energy efficiency, often with argon-gas filling and low-emissivity coatings, which actually improves the thermal performance of the window.

Emergency glazing is charged at a standard rate that reflects the immediate response. Planned glass replacement is quoted on the basis of a measured pane size and is generally far cheaper.
