Friendly, Local Handyman Services in Brotton
Brotton housing is mostly Victorian and Edwardian terraces from the mining boom, plus 1960s and 1970s council estates and modern infill. Solid construction throughout.
We've been working across Teesside, North Yorkshire and south County Durham since 2010, and Brotton is part of our regular weekly schedule rather than an outlying area we occasionally visit. That means we know the construction styles, the typical problems, the parking situation and the local trade-suppliers โ all the small things that make a job run smoothly. When we quote for work in Brotton, that quote is the price you pay: no callout fees, no postcode-loading, no manufactured extras once the work has started.
Notable Features of Brotton

- Hunley Hall Golf Club โ 27-hole course
- Mining heritage with surviving rows of ironstone-workers' housing
- Direct A174 route to Saltburn and Loftus
- Set in rolling countryside above the coast
A Short History of Brotton
Brotton is a former ironstone-mining village high on the East Cleveland coast. Its name means 'farm by the brook' in Old English, and it appears in the Domesday Book of 1086. The village remained agricultural until the Cleveland ironstone boom of the 1860s, when several mines opened in the surrounding hills (the Brotton Mine, Lumpsey, Lingdale and Loftus). Workers' housing was built in long terraces along the High Street and the side roads, and the imposing sandstone church of St Margaret's was built in 1891 to serve the rapidly-growing population. The mines closed by the 1960s but Brotton remains a substantial village of around 5,800 people.
Property Notes for Brotton
Sandstone properties in Brotton respond well to careful pointing and weatherproofing. Original timber sash windows are common in the older terraces and we repair them rather than replace where possible.

Why Brotton Customers Recommend Us
Most of our work comes from word-of-mouth recommendation. We turn up when we say we will, we work tidily, we leave the property cleaner than we found it, and we charge what we quoted. None of those things are remarkable in themselves, but together they put us in a small minority of trades that customers are genuinely happy to recommend to neighbours and family. Many of our regular Brotton customers are second-generation โ we did work for the parents and now we do work for the children's homes.
We use trusted local suppliers for materials, and we are happy to provide written estimates before any work begins. There is no minimum job size: if you need a single curtain pole hung, that is fine, and if you need a full kitchen refurbishment, that is fine too. We are also happy to take on regular small-maintenance schedules for Brotton landlords, holiday-let owners and busy households.
