Friendly, Local Handyman Services in Whitby
Whitby property ranges from 17th-century cottages on the harbour to grand Victorian villas on the West Cliff and modern estates inland. Conservation area covers most of the historic centre.
We've been working across Teesside, North Yorkshire and south County Durham since 2010, and Whitby is part of our regular weekly schedule rather than an outlying area we occasionally visit. That means we know the construction styles, the typical problems, the parking situation and the local trade-suppliers — all the small things that make a job run smoothly. When we quote for work in Whitby, that quote is the price you pay: no callout fees, no postcode-loading, no manufactured extras once the work has started.

- 199 Steps and the parish church of St Mary's
- Captain Cook's Whitby — apprenticed at Walker's house on Grape Lane
- Bram Stoker's Dracula — set partly in Whitby
- Famous for kippers, jet jewellery and Goth Weekend
A Short History of Whitby
Whitby is one of the most atmospheric towns in England. Its magnificent ruined abbey, set high on the East Cliff, was originally founded in 657 by St Hilda; the present ruins date from the 13th-century rebuilding. Whitby was the place where the Synod of Whitby (664) decided that the English Church should follow Roman rather than Celtic practice. The harbour grew rich on whaling and fishing, and it was here that the young James Cook was apprenticed to John Walker, a Quaker shipowner, in 1747 — and his three Pacific voyages all sailed in Whitby-built colliers. Bram Stoker set part of Dracula in Whitby in the 1890s, and the town has a thriving Gothic-tourism industry. Whitby has a population of around 13,200.
Property Notes for Whitby
Whitby is at the outer edge of our regular service area but we cover it for booked work. Carry-in is required for many older properties due to narrow harbourside streets. We charge an access fee for these jobs.

Why Whitby Customers Recommend Us
Most of our work comes from word-of-mouth recommendation. We turn up when we say we will, we work tidily, we leave the property cleaner than we found it, and we charge what we quoted. None of those things are remarkable in themselves, but together they put us in a small minority of trades that customers are genuinely happy to recommend to neighbours and family. Many of our regular Whitby customers are second-generation — we did work for the parents and now we do work for the children's homes.
We use trusted local suppliers for materials, and we are happy to provide written estimates before any work begins. There is no minimum job size: if you need a single curtain pole hung, that is fine, and if you need a full kitchen refurbishment, that is fine too. We are also happy to take on regular small-maintenance schedules for Whitby landlords, holiday-let owners and busy households.
